By the Sochi 2014 Olympics will be new money. By the upcoming 2014 Olympic Games in Sochi Central Bank of Russia in addition to traditional commemorative coins with Olympic symbols promises to release a paper “Olympic” money.
According to First Deputy Central Bank Chairman George Luntovsky, this bill will be one of the running denominations - 50, 100 or 500 rubles. So far, Central Bank of Russia has never produced commemorative paper money with the symbols of the Games. Similar bills in comparison with the commemorative coins are issued in general very rare in the world. New Olympic commemorative banknotes were issued for the Games in Beijing in 2008. Previously released only coins with Olympic symbols. Russia has a chance to become the second country, which released the Olympics commemorative bank notes. Bank of Russia also intends to issue coins with Olympic symbols in 2011. Bank leads the negotiations with the Olympic Committee.
